Joe's Story

Joe Garcia found himself locked up in Harris County jail and feeling completely alone.

Because he had made a mistake earlier in life and had been previously incarcerated, his friends and family lost trust and abandoned him when he was arrested a second time.

But, this time, Joe had been accused of a crime he didn’t commit.

He was assigned a series of useless court-appointed attorneys who offered him nothing.

No guidance. No hope. No dignity. No respect.

So, Joe turned to prayer.

Joe had a series of vivid dreams through which he recalls that God laid out His plans for him. Each morning when he awoke from one of the dreams, he faithfully recounted them in a dream journal.

What stood out most for Joe in the dream series was the silhouette of a Black angel and a premonition that he would be freed at an upcoming Court date.

While his fellow inmates harassed him and told him he was crazy, Joe did not give up faith in his dreams.

Soon after, Restoring Justice got involved in his case and Joe met his Black angel— Kevin Coker, Restoring Justice’s CEO and lead attorney.

Not long after taking Joe’s case, Kevin was able to secure his freedom.

By taking the time to look at the facts of the case and listen to Joe, Kevin was able to do what 6 overloaded court-appointed attorneys failed to do. And their failures had significant consequences for Joe—leaving him alone and isolated in jail for 14 long months!

Today, Joe is a successful executive in the dental field and is pursuing his favorite pastimes. Instead of bitterness, Joe is filled with gratitude and gives back by sharing his passion and religious convictions with others to help them make it through challenging times.
