Youth for Justice is the youth engagement branch of Restoring Justice that raises awareness of the injustices within the criminal justice system and educates the next generation about restorative justice, holistic reconciliation, systemic racism, and mass incarceration. CORE VALUES
History
Founded in the summer of 2019, Youth for Justice began as a collection of high school students in various high schools across Houston. Two high schools in Houston committed to having their own Youth for Justice Chapter and have kept the mission of Youth for Justice alive ever since. Throughout the 2019-2020 school year, Youth for Justice served at 7more, organized a fundraiser for the Restoring Justice Community Bail Fund, attended a special viewing of Just Mercy sponsored by the Houston Texans, attended Restoring Justice events, held a clothing/material drive for a previous Restoring Justice client, and hosted open discussion forums for high school students across Houston. Through this growing network, Youth for Justice strives to have more high school chapters across Houston and engage and educate students from all over the city.
Youth for Justice Chapters
Youth for Justice is made up of both a city-wide community and a collection of individual high school chapters at different high schools throughout Houston.
Individual high school chapters host events and meetings for their high school community. Ideas for meetings/events and guidelines for the structure of a Youth for Justice Chapter are provided to anyone who wants to start a chapter at their high school!
The city-wide Youth for Justice community serves as a network for high school social justice advocates and also hosts a few city-wide events a year.
