Harris County Jail Goes Digital
The move, negotiated with prison technology company Securus, will introduce tablets and other devices to improve inmates' access to the outside world and make conditions inside the facility safer.
Advocates argue that the company is concerned with profiting off the most vulnerable people and that eliminating physical mail could harm those whose rehabilitation could be aided by connection and love that comes with real mail. The majority of people inside Harris County Jail are low-income people with mental health and drug issues, and the company is primarily concerned with profiting off of the most vulnerable people.
